Museu Global 20+1

O Museu foi inaugurado a 1 de junho de 1996 e, passados 21 anos da sua inauguração, foi reunida uma coleção única que testemunha a forma global como o Homem encontrou a cura da doença e alcançou a conquista da saúde ao longo dos tempos.

Com esta exposição «Museu Global 20 + 1», pretendemos demonstrar a dimensão e a diversidade do acervo do Museu da Farmácia, nos domínios da Farmácia e da Medicina, em diversas culturas e civilizações ao longo do tempo, como testemunho da sobrevivência de toda a Humanidade. São inúmeras as manifestações do génio humano, na procura da cura e no alívio da dor.

Simultaneamente, pretendemos divulgar e evidenciar o progresso científico e as últimas descobertas que marcaram a história da Farmácia e da Medicina, como a existência de micróbios e bactérias como causas de doença, a cura com a penicilina e o conhecimento da estrutura do ADN, que possibilitou o avanço da biologia molecular e a capacidade da descoberta de novos medicamentos.

A saúde em ambientes extremos e a luta pela sobrevivência são testemunhados pelo kit de medicamentos levado pelos astronautas da NASA para o espaço, em 2001; pela mochila que os soldados aliados, na II Guerra Mundial, transportaram no desembarque da Normandia; e em situações limite como a mochila levada na conquista do Evereste, pelo alpinista João Garcia, o primeiro português a tocar no topo do mundo.

Outro objetivo a concretizar com esta exposição é demonstrar a influência e a presença de conceitos morais e de bons costumes na saúde pública, através de objetos únicos que marcaram a história da Humanidade.

The Museum was inaugurated on June 1, 1996, and after 21 years of its opening, a unique collection that testifies to the global way the man found a cure and achieved the conquest of health has been gathered over the years.

With this exhibition "Global Museum 20 + 1 ', we aim to demonstrate the size and diversity of the Pharmacy Museum's collection in the fields of pharmacy and medicine in many cultures and civilizations over time, as testimony to the survival of all Humanity. There are innumerable manifestations of human genius, in search of healing and pain relief.

At the same time, we intend to disseminate and highlight the scientific progress and the latest findings that marked the history of pharmacy and medicine, as the existence of microbes and bacteria as causes of disease, cure with penicillin and the knowledge of the structure of DNA, which allowed the advance of molecular biology and the ability of the new drug discovery.

The health in extreme environments and the struggle for survival are witnessed by drug kit taken by NASA astronauts to space in 2001; the backpack that Allied soldiers in World War II, carried the landing of Normandy; and in extreme situations such as backpack taken in the conquest of Everest, the climber João Garcia, the first Portuguese to touch the top of the world.

Another aim to achieve with this exhibition is to demonstrate the influence and presence of moral concepts and good manners in public health through unique objects that have marked the history of mankind.
